Hear how modern English words have been influenced by the Norse language at JORVIK Viking Festival

**SOLD OUT**

The impact of the Vikings in England wasn’t just confined to raiding; they left a lasting legacy for us all, their words…

These words, from their native tongue, Old Norse, became part of the evolving English language with many still being spoken every day – think of ‘egg’, ‘law’, ‘sky’, ‘window’ and even ‘they’!

This enlightening talk will explore these ‘Viking words’, how we know about them and trace their journey from the languages of the Viking Age to the present day;  including the part they’ve played in the rich and distinctive vernacular of the North of England.

Discover the other exciting Viking topics being discussed at this year’s festival!
